The score underwent revisions for ensuing productions, with adaptations to the book coming from Hugh Wheeler and to the text from Hellman, Richard Wilbur, John La Touche, Dorothy Parker, Stephen Sondheim, John Mauceri, John Wells, and Bernstein himself.
